Employee Spotlight: Megan Boeckelmann, Senior Inpatient Coder

We’re so excited to introduce our employee spotlight for the month of August. Meet Megan Boeckelmann! Dive into her Q&A to learn more about her career journey and hobbies outside of work.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work! What initially drew you to the healthcare industry, specifically medical coding?  

I was a veterinary technician when I realized the diseases processes/procedures/etc. interested me (but not so much the “hands on” aspect).  I did some research and found “medical coding”.  I began my schooling not long after. 

Tell us about a proud moment in your career (or life!) 

I was proud to earn my AAS in Health Information Technology and subsequently earned my RHIT and CCS certifications.  My daughter was born in 2010.  She makes me proud every day! 

What does a typical workday look like for you? 

Inpatient coding 🙂 

What do you like about working for OnPoint? 

Everyone at OnPoint is very friendly and helpful! 

What are some of your favorite resources (book, guide, podcast) to help you stay up to date in your profession?  

The quarterly coding clinics and AHIMA SmartBriefs are helpful and informative. 

Who or what inspires you the most? 

My mother inspires me most. 

Describe your perfect day-off! 

A relaxing day at the beach! 

What are you looking forward to most this year? (Could be a trip you have planned, an event you’re eagerly anticipating, a new skill you want to learn, or anything else that gets you excited!) 

I am going to a couple concerts in September I am excited about. 

What is something you’ve always wanted to learn? 

I’ve always wanted to learn how to drive stick shifts. 

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people may know? 

I love 80’s hair bands!
