Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work! What initially drew you to the healthcare industry, specifically medical coding?
I originally went to school for medical assistant. However, I was intrigued to research about medical coding after speaking to medical coders when we all took a professional development course. I loved what I was hearing and reading so I decided to switch to the analytical field. I passed my first certification before finishing the program back in 2013. My internship which was at a medical facility hired me in 2014.
How long have you been working with OnPoint? I have been with OnPoint for 8 months.
What do you love most about your job? I love the challenge of using my mental and technical agility skills to evaluate cases in a prompt manner. In return, this adds to the overall performance of the company to meet their financial objectives.
Tell us about a proud moment in your career (or life!) Back in 2018, an organization I was over orchestrated an event that fed the homeless and we led many people to Jesus Christ
What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career in medical coding?
Study your craft. Put in effort for 6 days, rest one. Ask God to lead and guide you. Obtain knowledge from at least 3 individuals in the industry. YouTube is one of many resources available to start.
What’s your favorite productivity hack?
Analyze each case with proficiency and accuracy. Discover any errors or defects quickly. Collaborate with team members to get the case resolved and completed.
What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to? I’m currently reading about Deborah and Jael in the Bible. Check out Judges Ch. 4&5
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I love to travel, spend time with my husband, children, and extended family, help others when needed, and spend time in the Word of God.
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to summer (or year)?
Honestly, I’m enjoying this year as a mom of 5 children. I recently gave birth to our fifth child which was our fourth pregnancy and first boy. Seeing the blessings of the Lord is what I always look forward to.
What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
I would like to visit the Bahamas with my family.
