Employee Spotlight: Elizabeth Rolison, ProFee Coder & Auditor

What do you enjoy most about your role as a Coder & Auditor?

I really enjoy the variety of charts I get to code and audit. No two charts are ever the same so there is always something new and different with each one. I also love the flexibility it has provided me. I have been working remotely since I started coding in 2018 and it is a great fit that allows me to have the flexibility I want. I really enjoy that there is always something new to learn or research.

Who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

My sister had been in the coding world for quite some time and was the first one to suggest it to me. I took the course while working full time. It meant a lot of late nights and weekends studying but allowed me to feel confident when taking my certification exam. I am so happy I listened to her!

What’s something you find challenging about your work?

Staying current on all the coding updates can be a bit overwhelming. Just when you think you fully understand something a new set of guidelines or codes can make you feel like you are back at day one.

What do you find most interesting about your field of work?

I enjoy learning about the new medical technologies and treatments available. If they are performing it we are coding it!

What’s your favorite productivity hack?

I find that alternating between groups of the most difficult tasks and groups of easier tasks tends to keep me from feeling burnt out during the day. I also like to color code just about anything that can be.

What is a common myth about your job or field of expertise?

I believe many people think that we are just entering codes given to us by the providers, but it is so much more than that. Deciphering the documentation and selecting the correct codes is much more complex than most people realize.

What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?

I would love to head over to visit Scotland or Italy.

You have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?

Money is really the best answer here, they say it can’t buy happiness but I’m already happy so it can help with everything else.

What’s your current favorite TV show/movie?

I hate waiting for new episodes to be released, so I mostly watch shows only after at least a full season is available. Right now, I am rewatching one of my favorites, The Magicians.

What’s one song you have completely memorized?

One Week by Barenaked Ladies.
