Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work! What initially drew you to healthcare, specifically denials management and appeals?
I’ve been a nurse for 17 years, and I have a background in psychology and social work. A colleague introduced me to denials and appeals. I was immediately drawn to the challenge of helping hospitals and physicians get reimbursed for the vital care they provide, and to making sure the financial side reflects the true value of their work.
How has your role evolved since you started in this industry?
My role requires constant adaptability. Insurers frequently update their policies and medicine is always advancing, so I’ve had to stay current with payer requirements and national guidelines to ensure accurate, effective appeals.
Tell us about a proud moment in your career (or life!)
I volunteered as a lobbyist on Capitol Hill advocating for cancer research funds, and presented information to Congress, resulting in additional grant money!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love helping clients maximize their revenue by turning denials into learning opportunities—whether that’s through effective appeals or provider education that prevents future losses!
What’s one tool, habit, or process that makes your workday smoother?
Does coffee count as a tool? 😜 Organization is key and I use Google every day.
Describe your perfect weekend:
Currently my perfect weekend includes watching Ohio State football with friends and family!
What was the highlight of your summer?
Cruising on the third-sailing of The Star of the Seas. I met amazing people!
What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?
I love to read! Currently I am obsessed with anything by Frieda McFadden or Kiersten Modglin. I am (im)patiently awaiting the next seasons of Silo and Severance.
If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be?
I really want to speak French and Spanish fluently.
What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
Alaska- I am headed there this month! After that: Italy.
Beach vacation or mountain getaway?
Mountain getaway complete with hiking, a cabin and fireplace!
