Employee Spotlight: Q&A with Sue Albertson, CDI Specialist

by OnPoint Healthcare Solutions

We are thrilled to introduce our employee of the month, Sue Albertson! Sue has been working as a CDI specialist at OnPoint for two years now and her work ethic, expertise and infectious positive attitude are just a few reasons we love working with her. To learn more about Sue and her journey, check out her Q&A:

How did you get started in the healthcare industry and how long have you been working in CDI?

I started in healthcare in 1983 as a new graduate in nursing. I worked the floor and made my way through to case management prior to becoming a clinical documentation specialist in 2005.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

I think I’m most proud of the fact that I can still do the job I love – after 40 years. I don’t think many people can say that in their chosen careers.

What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?

I would want people to know that working behind the scenes in the healthcare industry can be just as rewarding as working the front lines with direct patient care.

What advice would you give someone wanting to pursue a career in CDI?

I would tell anyone who was interested in this area to first complete a bootcamp – It’s well worth the time and money to see if this is something you would love to do. If this is your chosen path – there are many opportunities out there for CDI.

What do you love most about your job?

Being a CDI is the one job I can think of that lets you use all your years of experience, whether it was working on the floor as a bedside nurse, or in a post op unit, or the Emergency Room.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

I’d love to have all my extended family together for the day enjoying good food, laughs, and stories.

What is your favorite hobby?

I have a deep love for reading. I have had this hobby all my life and I love it even more now than I did when I was younger.

What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?

I’d always thought an Alaskan Cruise would be so much fun. To see all the scenery and wildlife.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I met my husband of 40 years while tending bar in a small town while finishing my nursing degree.
