How did you first get into coding, and how long have you been an ED Lead Coder?

“I had an amazing advisor at the college push me to add the medical coding certification on the side of my Healthcare Management degree.  I passed my CPC before I graduated from college in 2007. I landed my first auditing position in 2009 at a local hospital working my way to physician education and obtaining my CPMA in 2013, I had an amazing mentor, Bonnie. I began remote consulting and contract work to be able to work from home late in 2013 and received a management promotion in 2014. I worked as a Coding Resource Manager from 2014-2020, moving up to a Coding Director from 2020-2021. In 2021, I took some steps down the ladder to have more time with my family, coding, and auditing. In 2023 I took a position with OnPoint as a Lead ED Coder, to have a mix of all the things I loved about my management positions but still be able to have good work-life balance. While I have only been a Lead ED Coder for a few months, I have been in coding for over 16 years with about 10 of those years being in lead and management roles.”
